The user base has requested alternative colors. I tried it — see the branch and a demo working with dark browser settings —

but it turns out that it is absolutely not clear how the colors could retain their psychological characteristics such as unobtrusiveness vs. salience.

If anybody has an idea, or can recommend pertinent documentation or studies — or maybe conduct a study of their own? — please tell me.
